Premier Division League
Sallypark and Nenagh Celtic clashed in this Premier League fixture played at Nenagh VEC on Sunday morning and shared the spoils on a one all score line. Both sets of defences were on top in the opening half to leave it scoreless at the break. The second half was also a tight affair, however Mark Walsh shot the hosts ahead with fifteen minutes to play. Sallypark kept plugging and drew level seven minutes from time when Anthony Lyons rattled the net.
Moneygall and Rearcross played out a one all draw in Ballingrawn on Sunday morning. It was stalemate at the midway stage, however Kieran Devitt edged the visiting side ahead early in the second half with a headed goal from a corner kick. Moneygall got back level when Mark Walsh was on target to leave it all square at the full time whistle.
Thurles Town were on their travels to Killaloe to play Lough Derg and secured full points on a 5-3 score line. The visitors raced in to a three nil lead with strikes from Padraig Fogarty, Jamie O’Connor and Robbie Jordan. Lough Derg rallied and pulled one back through John O’Connor. An in form Robbie Jordan restored the away side’s advantage, however an end to end affair saw Chris Monaghan on target to make it at 4-2 and then Jason O’Brien brought it back to the minimum with a good finish, however Thurles Town had the last say when Robbie Jordan rounded off his hat-trick with a well worked goal to cap off a hard earned win for the Thurles side.
Nenagh AFC had to battle all the way to earn a 4-3 result against Cloughjordan at the away venue. Cloughjordan held a one nil advantage at the break courtesy of a Darren Killackey goal coming in the 20th minute. The visitors got on top in the second half and tagged on three in succession the first coming from an Arthur Mitchell bicycle kick effort, Mark McKenna made it 2-1 with a converted penalty and then Alan Sheehan stretched it to 3-1 with a half volley. Cloughjordan didn’t throw in the towel and brought it back to the minimum with a Seb Saner finish. It was end to end as Danny Butler gave the Blues a 4-2 lead following a one on one finish. Axel Ntumba was on the mark for the hosts in injury time to leave a narrow 4-3 win for the League leaders.
First Division League
Borroway Rovers were two nil victors over Clonmore in this league fixture played in Thurles, Keith Moore shot Borroway ahead after fifteen minutes with a good strike. David Keane doubled the home side’s tally on the half hour mark thanks to a Seamus Woodlock assist. Clonmore turned in strong second half performance but were unable to break down a resilient Borroway Rovers rear guard.
Kilcommon hosted this First Division League game against Borrisokane ‘A’ but went under on a three nil score line to the visiting side. It was scoreless at the break, however Borrisokane edged ahead when John Doyle pounced five minutes in to the second period. It was two nil on fifty five minutes after John Butler stroked home from ten yards following good work by John Doyle down the left. It was game, set and match with ten minutes to play after John Doyle was taken down in the box before Joe Gleeson stepped up to ram the ball home from the spot, Gary Donnelly turned in a man of the match performance for the winners.
Roscrea United ‘A’ kept the pressure on at the top of the First Division with a 7-2 win over Arra Rovers in Portroe last Sunday morning. The opening half was well contested with the Roscrea side holding a 3-2 advantage at the midway stage with goals from John Cordial, Paul Kirwan and Craig Byrnes while Tom Stapleton and a Kevin O’Halloran penalty made up the home side’s tally. Roscrea held the upper hand in the second half and ran out comfortable winners with further goals from Paul Kirwan, Craig Byrnes and a double hit from David McNamara.
Nenagh AFC ‘B’ maintained pole position in the First Division following a 6-2 result against Ardcroney in Brickfields last Sunday. The sides were level on a one all score line at the break, however the league leaders turned up the heat in the second half to emerge convincing winners. Birinder Singh and Chris Ryan bagged a brace apiece while Tommy Mitchell and Oísin Fitzpatrick were also on target for the winners. The Ardcroney goals were scored by Philip Blackwell who netted before half time and Pat McLoughney who brought it back to 3-2 with twenty minutes to go.
Clodiagh Rangers ‘A’ put up the biggest score of the day with an 8-1 win over an under strength Nenagh Celtic ‘B’ and had their marksmen in Ger Grant who helped himself to a hat-trick, Paul Doyle chipped in with a brace while Matt Ryan, Greg Fewer and Mark Quinlan were also on the scoresheet for the Drombane side, John Donnellan got the lone reply for Nenagh Celtic.
Second Division League
Ballymackey trekked to Ballinderry for this league fixture against Shannon Rangers and were full value for a four nil victory. Chances fell to both sides in the opening half, however it remained scoreless at the half time whistle.
Ballymackey pressed hard in the second half and edged ahead courtesy of a Timmy Fleming goal in the 50th minute. Alan Kenneally made it two nil five minutes later. It was one way traffic after this as Timmy Fleming increased the visitor’s advantage with a headed goal on 68 minutes, Alan Kenneally wrapped it up for away side ten minutes from time with a well stuck shot that went all the way to the net.
Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’ were at home to Nenagh AFC ‘C’ and came out on top by the odd goal in three. The Brickfields outfit were a goal to the good at the break thanks to a Dean Morrissey strike, however second half goals from Gary Donnelly and Brian Carroll sealed the win for Clodiagh Rangers.
BT Harps ‘B’ were 2-1 victors away to Portumna Town last Sunday afternoon, Dylan Loughnane and Willie Kavanagh were on target for the Templemore side while Keith Finnerty scored the Portumna goal seven minutes in to the tie.
Holycross ‘A’ defeated Templetuohy on a four goals to nil score line in Glenbane last Sunday to make it four wins on the trot. The home side hit the front on 25 minutes when Seanie Comerford released James Shanahan who made no mistake. Holycross went two up five minutes before the break after Thomas Comerford’s mazy run set up James Shanahan who banged home his second of the day. An in form James Shanahan completed his hat-trick on the hour mark after latching on to Thomas Comerford’s cross to volley between the posts. Philip Cullen rounded off the scoring with ten minutes to play thanks to a smashing strike from all of twenty five yards
Third Division League
Roscrea United ‘B’ prevailed over Cloughjordan ‘B’ on a five nil score line in this top of the table clash played in Roscrea. A well contested opening period saw Niall O’Lone score the only goal of the half to give the home side a half time lead. Roscrea United out ran Cloughjordan in the second period netting four in the process, Martin Harty netted a hat-trick while Niall O’Lone scored his second of the outing to seal the win.
Noreside Celtic had too much strength in depth for Borrisokane ‘B’ on a 6-1 score line. Borrisokane had taken the lead in the 13th minute when David Fox obliged following a Darren Molloy assist. Tommy Porter levelled it up for the home side five minutes later to leave the sides tied at the break. Noreside completely outplayed the away side in the second period and went ahead with a Tommy Porter penalty kick. The performance of the day came from Tommy Porter who netted three more quick fire goals to bring his tally to five before Jason Quinlivan copper fastened the win late on with a well taken goal.
Clodiagh Rangers ‘C’ shared the spoils on a one all score line with Lough Derg ‘B’ in this Third Division league game played in Drombane. The visitors went ahead after seven minutes with a Keith Conway goal, however Clodiagh Rangers enjoyed the better of the second half exchanges and bagged an equalizer when Jamie Moloney headed home from a corner kick midway through the half.
Glenbane was the venue for the meeting of Holycross ‘B’ and Nenagh Celtic ‘C’ with the home side claiming the plaudits on a 4-2 margin. The Holycross marksmen were Eddie Moore, Brian Shanahan, Shane Maher and James Doran while Nenagh Celtic scorers were Dave Fagan and Jimmy Reddan who scored a cracking effort.
Sallypark ‘B’ came from behind to win out over Gurtagarry on a 5-3 score line at the Sallypark venue last Sunday morning. The visitors got the perfect start after opening up a two nil lead inside the opening five minutes with goals from Billy Corcoran and Ger Ryan. Sallypark came out with all guns blazing in the second half scoring five on the trot in the opening twenty minutes courtesy of a Paddy Tynan brace in addition to strikes from Jack O’Donnell, Tom Seymour and Kelvin McGrath. Gurtagarry pulled one back late on when Joey McLoughney was on target with a magnificent effort, however it was a case of too little too late on this occasion.
Rearcross ‘B’ trekked to Portroe to play Arra Rovers ‘B’ and made the journey worthwhile with a 4-1 victory over the home side. James Deegan opened the Rearcross account, however John Barry netted an equalizer for Arra Rovers before the half. Rearcross were dominant in the second period and tacked on three without reply through Liam Ryan, Joey Nolan and Darragh Kennedy to give the visiting side a comprehensive win in the end.
Youths League
Rearcross Youths came from behind to win out on a 3-2 score line over Clodiagh Rangers in Rearcross on Friday evening. The hosts took the lead after twenty two minutes when Gary McMahon raced on to Darragh Ryan Luke’s kick out before rifling to the back of the net. The lead was short lived as Conor Ryan was on hand to prod home from close range two minutes later. The Drombane side took a 2-1 lead to the break when Jack Butler got on the end of a corner kick to head clinically to the corner of the net. Rearcross turned in a fine second half performance and got back level nine minutes in when good approach play involving Paul Ryan and Evan Gleeson saw Patrick Carey head home. Rearcross scored what proved to be the winner with fifteen minutes remaining when Kevin Connolly’s corner kick broke to Patrick Carey who headed his second of evening between the posts.
Lough Derg Youths recorded a 5-1 victory over Ballymackey last Saturday at the Ballinree venue. The home side took the lead five minutes in thanks to a Tommy Teer goal, however Lough Derg took over after this and netted three on the trot in a ten minute spell midway through the half with a brace from Jamie Stuart complemented by a Emmet Hanly strike. The Ballina / Killaloe side remained on the attack and went in at half time with a 4-1 lead after Shane Moloney rattled the net. Ballymackey tried hard in the second half, however Marco Federico left no way back for the home side with a well taken goal to leave the visitors comfortable winners on the day.
Nenagh Celtic Youths claimed the win over Ardcroney on a 4-1 scoreline in Nenagh last Saturday, Ardcroney had taken a one nil lead through Emmet Moran, however Paul Walsh headed home the equalizer with a superb effort from a Sean O’Meara cross to leave it level at the interval. Jamie Kelly put the Hoops ahead with a converted penalty after Paul Walsh was fouled inside the area. An in form Paul Walsh completed his hat-trick with two well taken goals late in the game to clinch the win for Nenagh Celtic.
FAI U-17 Cup
Nenagh AFC welcomed Cashel Town to Brickfields for this FAI U-17 Cup encounter and dished out a four nil defeat to the TSDL side. Stevie Daly set Nenagh of their way with a superb twenty five yard strike. Dylan Kennedy made it two nil with a volleyed effort from the edge of the box. It was more of the same in the second half as Dylan Kennedy made it three nil with a superb solo effort and then completed his hat-trick later on with another fine finish from close range give the Blues a comprehensive win on the day.
Clonmel Town knocked BT Harps out of the FAI U-17 Cup on a 3-2 score line last Saturday in Clonmel.
