NT&DL Tipperary Cup
Cloughjordan was the venue for this derby Tipperary Cup game between Cloughjordan ‘A’ and Borrisokane ‘A’ where the home team shaded it on a narrow 2-1 score line. The sides were scoreless at the break, however Davy Williams edged the hosts ahead with a clinical finish, Borrisokane equalized when Joe Gleeson converted from the spot following a handball infringement, but Ger O’Brien hit the winner late on to send Cloughjordan through to the semi-final stages.
Lough Derg ‘A’ won out over BT Harps ‘A’ by the odd goal in seven in this Tipperary Cup last sixteen game played in Clarisford Park. Christopher Monaghan put the hosts one up with a fine finish from a tight angle, Thomas Grace made it two nil with a converted penalty after Dermot McCarthy was pushed over in the box. Lough Derg were cruising at the stage as Christopher Monaghan banged home his second of the day with a curling left footed effort from all of twenty five yards. Jason Comley got in on the action to make it four nil after putting the ball beyond the reach of the visiting custodian late in the half. The Templemore side pulled one back just before the break through Jack Moore. BT Harps pressed hard in the second half and a hectic finish ensued when goals from Chris Eid and Christy Moore brought it back to the minimum, however the Lakers dug deep to grind out the win.
Thurles Greyhound Stadium was the venue for this Tipperary Cup clash between Thurles Town and Nenagh Celtic ‘A’ with the Nenagh side securing their place in the last eight with an emphatic 7-3 result. Thurles Town had led 2-1 at the break thanks to a double hit from Tom Brophy. Thurles Town were reduced to ten men in the second half as the Hoops ran out comprehensive 7-3 winners and had their key man in Mark Walsh who bagged four on the day while Danny Ryan, Enrico Casey and Paudie O’Meara were also on the scoresheet, Tom Tierney scored the second half goal for Thurles Town
Fast Food Cup
Sallypark ‘B’ proved the more clinical against Borrisokane ‘B’ with a 5-4 penalty shootout win at the Sallypark venue last Sunday. The sides were scoreless at the end of normal time. David Nevin edged the away side ahead two minutes in to the first period of extra time, however Murty McMahon equalized for Sallypark to take the tie to penalties. Sallypark had their sharpshooters in Paudie Ryan, Leo McKenna, James McCormack, Dylan Reid and Sean Ryan while Robert Nevin, Marc Rahmoune, David Kennedy and Liam Dunne converted for the visitors.
Lough Derg ‘B’ welcomed Noreside Celtic to the Clare venue for this Third Division Cup quarter final game with the hosts progressing to the last four on a 3-1 score line. The Lakers sharpshooters were Mark McInerney, Alex Huddlestan and Keith Conway while the lone Noreside response came from Tommy Porter who scored from the spot.
Gurtagarry secured their place in the Fast Food Cup semi-finals by virtue of a 3-1 victory over Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’. The home team laid the foundation in the opening half netting two goals in the process, Ronnie Kinnane was on the mark in the 9th minute and then Ronnie Kinnane bagged his second of the day ten minutes before the break. Clodiagh Rangers rallied towards the half time whistle and pulled it back to the minimum when David Considine rattled the net. Dinny Corcoran restored the Gurtagarry advantage eleven minutes in to the second half with a cleverly executed goal. The Drombane outfit tried hard to work their way back in to the tie but were thwarted by a resilient Gurtagarry rearguard.
First Division League
Borrisokane ‘A’ and Roscrea United ‘A’ clashed in this top of the table clash played in Borrisokane on Wednesday evening. The visiting side opened up a two nil lead with goals from Craig Byrne and Paul Kirwan. Borrisokane reduced the deficit through John Doyle, however Martin Healy stepped in to the action to restore the Roscrea advantage with a well taken goal. The home team didn’t give up though and brought it back to the minimum when Joe Gleeson headed between the posts, however Roscrea United held firm after this to secure full points.
Clodiagh Rangers ‘A’ secured promotion to the Premier Division with a facile nine nil victory over an under strength Nenagh Celtic ‘B’ team on Sunday morning. The opening half was evenly contested with the visitors holding a two nil lead at the midway stage after Denis McCullagh and Mark Quinlan hit the target while the home team were unlucky not to open their account. It was one-way traffic in the second half as Paul Doyle hit an impressive five goals while Mark Quinlan scored his second of the day, James Murray made up the scoring for Clodiagh Rangers.
Roscrea United ‘A’ edged towards the top of the table with a convincing three nil away victory over Kilcommon last Sunday. Robbie Ryan set the visiting side on their way with a well worked goal in the 17th minute. Kilcommon battled gallantly after this but Eoin Shanahan made it two nil with twenty minutes to go and then John Pio Fitzpatrick wrapped it up for Roscrea in the 86th minute.
Youths Cup
Nenagh AFC Youths progressed to the Youths Cup Final with a comfortable five nil win over Lough Derg at Clarisford venue on Sunday morning and had their target men in Birindar Singh, Anton Provotorov, Ciaran O’Reilly and Alan Sheehan who bagged a brace.
