Weekend Review for Week Ending 6th April

Nora Kennedy Cup Final
Streamstown Celtic clinched a dramatic Second Division Cup title with a penalty shootout win over Nenagh AFC ‘C’ in Ballinree on Saturday evening. Streamstown hit the front on 67 minutes when Garry Kenneally’s left footed free kick whizzed to the back of the net. The lead was short lived however as Nenagh AFC were back level two minutes later after Paddy McInerney fired to the roof of the net from just inside the area. Extra time failed to produce a winner so it was down to the penalty shootout to decide the outcome. The Celts held a 2-1 advantage after the opening three spot kicks with Brian Kirwan and Gary Kenneally converting for Streamstown while Brian Quinn was on the mark for Nenagh AFC. Brickfields custodian Gerry Treacy saved three penalties, however Streamstown’s Jason Ryan went one better saving four on the trot to secure the win for the Roscrea Club. NT&DL Chairman Mike Young presented the Nora Kennedy Cup to Streamstown Captain Diarmuid Loughnane after the game.

Premier Division League
Nenagh AFC clinched the Premier League title following a nil all result against Nenagh Celtic at Thurles Greyhound Stadium last Sunday morning, a tight affair throughout saw Nenagh Celtic come closest when Danny Ryan’s effort came off the post. A draw was sufficient to see Nenagh AFC clinch their fourth Premier Division league in succession. 

First Division League
Roscrea United ‘A’ claimed full points on a four nil score line against Arra Rovers last Wednesday with all goals coming in the second period, Paul Kirwan and John Cordial netted a brace a piece to secure the win for the home team.

Clodiagh Rangers ‘A’ kept their promotion hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Arra Rovers at the Drombane venue last Sunday. James Murray headed the home team ahead, however Christopher O’Riordan pegged it back level for Arra Rovers on 32 minutes to leave it at all square at the break. Clodiagh Rangers upped the ante in the second half and sealed the win with goals from Mark Quinlan and Paul Doyle.

It finished stalemate on a one all score line between Roscrea Utd ‘A’ and Nenagh AFC ‘B’ in this top of the table clash played in Kennedy Park last Sunday afternoon. Robbie Ryan scored for the hosts while Trevor Morrissey scored the Nenagh AFC goal with a twenty five yard left footed volley. Both sides had ample scoring opportunities throughout, although the woodwork denied Roscrea twice to leave it deadlocked at the full time whistle.

Second Division League
BT Harps ‘B’ welcomed Ballymackey to Templemore for a league fixture on Friday evening but sent the Ballinree side home empty handed after dishing out a 3-1 defeat. Ballymackey opened up a one nil in the 16th minute when Alan Kenneally headed home from close range. BT Harps produced a strong finish to the half and levelled on the half hour mark when James Kavanagh headed between the posts. Paul Touhy made it 2-1 five minutes before the break with another headed effort from a free kick. Ballymackey tried hard to get back in to the tie in the second period, however the hosts made sure of the win when Willie Kavanagh tapped home from close range with twenty minutes to play.

Holycross ‘A’ were comfortable 5-1 winners over Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’ in Glenbane on Sunday morning. The home team were two goals to the good at the midway stage with a brace from Jojo O’Meara with latter coming from a Kyle Denny assist. It was three nil to Holycross early in the second half courtesy of an own goal, Jojo O’Meara then completed his hat-trick with a well taken goal, Kevin Callanan completed the rout for Holycross with an unstoppable drive. Patrick Purcell snatched a consolation goal for the away side with a converted penalty fifteen minutes from the end.

Third Division League
Lough Derg ‘B’ were at home to Clodiagh Rangers ‘C’ and emerged victorious on a 3-1 score line over the visiting team. Clodiagh Rangers had taken a one nil lead thanks to a Kevin Ryan goal, however it was one way traffic in the second half as the Lakers hit a trio of goals through Kieran Larkin and a double hit from Nathan Wood.

Sallypark won out against Noreside Celtic by the odd goal in five at the Sallypark venue. The away side trailed by two goals at break courtesy of strikes from Chris Treacy and Paudie Ryan penalty. Noreside reduced the deficit early in the second half, however Leo McKenna restored the Sallypark venue. The visitors grabbed their second of the day, but Sallypark dug deep after this to grind out the win.

Cloughjordan ‘B’ were two nil winners over Borrisokane ‘B’ last Sunday, both goals came in the opening half through Andy Brennan and PJ O’Brien.

NT&DL Tipperary Cup
Borrisokane ‘A’ had to rely on a penalty shootout to overcome Roscrea Utd ‘B’ last Sunday morning in Roscrea. Borrisokane goalkeeper Jamie Donnelly produced the goods in the opening half with two fine save before the visiting side took a fortuitous lead when a John Butler corner kick finished in the net. Stephen Murphy brought it back level for Roscrea with a converted penalty ten minutes in to the second period and then Niall O’Lone shot the home team ahead midway through the half. John Butler was in the action again fifteen minutes from time after keeping his cool to slot between the posts. Extra time failed to produce a winner so it was down to the penalty shootout where Borrisokane came through on a 3-2 score line, Stephen Murphy and Stephen Delaney scored the Roscrea penalties.

Youths League
Lough Derg Youths were victorious over Ballymackey Youths on a 6-4 score line at the Clarisford Park venue on Saturday afternoon. The Lough Derg sharpshooters were Marco Federico and Jamie Stuart who bagged a brace a piece while Lowel Ryan and Seamus Monaghan were also on the mark. The Ballymackey scorers were Tommy Teer who chipped in with a brace while Jordan O’Sullivan and Shaun Kevin made up the tally.
